In Nigeria, especially in the rural areas, a lot of girls entering primary and secondary school never complete their education. One of the reasons is lack of proper information on puberty stage and menstruation and lack of access to sanitary pads. Most families living on less than a Dollar a day cannot afford to buy sanitary pads for their girls as they are too expensive. GreenPad Concepts manufacture biodegradable sanitary pads made from 99% local materials with the main raw material being plantain and banana stems which are abundant all over the country. GreenPad cost 60% cheaper than the pads in the market and girls/women from underprivileged families/communities can access these pads. Access to sanitary pads will decrease absenteeism in school and dropping out among school girls. The other goal is to create employment to the many women without jobs. GreenPads business model will see women self -help groups trained on production and distribution of these Pads throughout the country in the next 5 years. At the heart of GreenPad Concepts is the desire to collaborate with women in rural communities and help them achieve a new life for themselves by providing them with the means to exploit their full potential as entrepreneurs. GreenPad Concepts has the goal of providing employment to over 300 women, while creating access to sanitary pads to over 1Million girls in rural and mini-urban areas in the first year months of operation. Also, it will help the school girls; especially the children of poor farmers to stay in class and in long run develop the rural areas and increase future good women.
